Esmée had a nice interview with Cosmogirl! to promote the digital release of her debut album ‘Outta Here‘ in the US. She talks about her influences, Justin Timberlake, her debut album and more. Be sure to read the full interview below.
Esmee Denters is probably one of the coolest girls in the world. Growing up in Holland, she loved singing so much that she posted videos on You Tube (yes, just like Justin Bieber)! Her talents caught the eye of none other than Justin Timberlake who signed her almost immediately! She now has the hit song “Love Dealer” that features JT and is releasing her debut album Outta Here this fall. She’s also the face of b.tempt’d's new campaign that features a special promotion: $2 from every bra purchase will go to Susan G. Komen for breast cancer support. Esmee is one busy girl so CG was lucky enough to grab a few minutes of her time so you could get to know her a bit better!
Singing Beginnings: “I have been singing since as long as I can remember, probably since I could open my mouth. Singing is like breathing to me, I don’t know what I would do without it. I have never felt so passionately about anything else. Music makes me feel like I belong.”
Influences: “I listened to a lot of different kinds of music since my dad has always been a music freak. I grew up with a lot of soul music as well as The Beatles and Classical music. As I got older I was infatuated with the Spice Girls and Janet Jackson.”
On Justin Timberlake: “I have always admired his work, so when I realized Justin had seen my video’s and wanted to meet me backstage at one of his shows it felt very surreal. I guess when I was there my drive kind of took over my nerves and I asked him if it was ok to play him a song on the piano in the room. He immediately loved it and signed me a month later.”

Debut Album Insight: “The album is a reflection of the person that I am. I wrote/co-wrote on most of the songs so a lot of it is personal. There are some fun, club songs and in others, I showed my vulnerable side. It is a pop record with other influences such as R&B and rock. When people listen to this album I hope they can find a piece of themselves in the music. When I am writing a song that’s always what I keep in mind.”
b.tempt’d: “b.tempt’d asked me to be part of their campaign and of course I was very excited. I love what the b.tempt’d brand stands for and admire their dedication and support of Susan G Komen. I am very happy to be a part of the new b.tempt’d promotion – “Outta Here.” They also have the cutest lingerie ever!”
Growing Up Overseas: “The difference is probably that Holland is such a small country compared to the US. What I really like about America is that everybody is so focused and driven – just like me. In Holland, the people are a bit more laidback and more family oriented. So I think if you take a little bit of both worlds it would be the perfect combo. The fashion and music are pretty similar, since Holland is very influenced by American culture. I do like all the little vintage shops that you can find in Amsterdam.”
Inspired By: “I have a lot of respect for Beyonce. She is a true icon, she has everything it takes. I don’t think there is a thing that woman can’t do.”
Words to Live By: “From Oprah: ‘Keep your feet on the ground – just wear better shoes.’”
She’s Got the Fever: “I don’t know if it’s surprising everybody has Bieber fever, right?”
Celebrity Crush: “Where to begin? Ha ha! I really like Adrien Grenier from Entourage he’s a cutie and he seems cool.”

Nice interview! But just to let you know Esmée: not everyone has Bieber fever. ;)

@Lindsey Haven’t found any pics either :(
@niceguy Shame Esmée didn’t get nominated for the EMA’s. I checked the artists and I’m not wasting my time to vote on any of them. Het muziek niveau van de lage landen gaat opnieuw naar beneden!

@Lindsey I’ve tried to make my birthday letter at the link above, but I didn’t work. I’ve send you a mail with my letter for Esmée instead ;)

I hope we get some Huge music news Before the end year!
I can’t wait any longer.
I think the second album will be released next year, a first single MAYBE before the end of the year but i kinda doubt it.
A lot of huge artists are gonna release before the end of the year/early next year, So i’m not sure because esmée would kinda get lost with all those huge names.
Let’s hope for the best, And pray to GOD they plan/are planning a Huge/Much Better Campaign.
Anyway this was a random thought, Just Sharing. :P

Test!!
September 21st, 2010 at 3:39 pm
Ah good, I’m back. And I’ve brought some news: at the wiki page of Lil’ Wayne (if you don’t know him, you’re living under a rock!) it seems he’s collaborating with our very own Esmée. The song is called “The Night”. I don’t know if it’s all official yet, but it’s something.
September 21st, 2010 at 3:44 pm
I was trying to put the link of the wiki page on here, but the commenting system doesn’t allow it. Probably spam issues. And because you are all big boys and girls you can probably find it yourself. :P
Peace out!

Just watched the new season of Glee opening episode. Charise, who was discovered on YouTube long after Esmée has a leading role in this season….the #1 show on American TV. She and Justin Beiber have moved up to stellar status while Esmée is basically sitting at home and only occasionally performing. It’s high time Tennman and JT get off their respective butts and get something BIG going. This “taking it slow and easy” thing has long played out. Not promoting her album in the U.S is bothersome as well. I can only say I’m getting real concerned by the direction (or non-direction) Esmée’s career is taking. This is not what I, or her other fans, were expecting. I don’t think it is what Esmée was expecting either. Time for a change by her management or it’s time for a management change!!!

@2004crf450 We fans can say (or beg) all we want, it’s not like they are gonna listen to us. I’m 100% sure that if Esmée would have signed at a bigger label, she would already have sold out some (small) stadiums. But hey, it’s her choice.
I’m just gonna sit here and wait.
September 22nd, 2010 at 10:54 am
@Mark & Thijs – Well just google Charise and she is really talented. Would have been so great IF Esmee made a guest appereance on Glee. We talked about this before right Mark? She is talented enough!
At this point I feel it’s just a shame she didn’t get the promotion she deserved with the (digital) release of her album. I kind of have the feeling they didn’t put enough time and promotion into her. But I’m still hoping, and I will support every step she makes. She is truly gifted with a great voice, a talent and an amazing personallity. We just have to wait, support and wish for the best because I still BELIEVE she will make it far, the world can’t keep ignoring her.
September 22nd, 2010 at 11:05 am
All we can do is hope for the best, and support esmée all the way through the process. :-)
September 22nd, 2010 at 11:06 am
@Lindsey I know who Charice is, and indeed she’s very talented. I only hope Tennman is gonna put a bit more effort in Esmée’s second album. Maybe this one was just a test. (I bloody hope so!)
Anyway, don’t forget to vote for her at the Edison Awards:

She’s promoting the Edisons like crazy! Hope she’ll win it!
September 22nd, 2010 at 11:24 am
She deserves a BIG promotion! We need to do something! But I don’t know if they will promote Esmée in the US with her first album. I would like they release a new single and promote it, but I think now the focus is the collab song and her next album :(
.
@niceguy “I hope we get some Huge music news Before the end year!”
Maybe first single of her new album before the end year? I HOPE SO!

I dont think theire going to promote Esmee first album in the USA. Esmee is writing alot of new music at home but she is not recording. So i think that we have to wait a long time for her second album. None of the signed artist of Tenman have been really succesful. Like Matt Morris did okey and he went to ellen and al those shows in the USA.
So that did help.
I guess the tours that Esmee did with enrique ,ne-yo and honour society cost alot cause like Esmee they have to pay to do the pre show.
With the big promotion of Outta here they dont have the money to promote in the Usa.
This is my theorie cause i dont understand why else they neglet this album.Look at Pixie Lott same year of release of their albums and she is even doing well in the USA.
